Background
While working on behalf of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, WW1 Research Ireland has recently discovered that names were missing from Ballymena and District’s War Memorial (Memorial Park, Galgorm Road). Extensive research has produced a list of 172 additional names. Verified names will be added to the War Memorial by November 2018.

Consultation
Between 25 September and 10 November 2017 we are inviting the public to examine the list of names provided below (these include those currently named on the Memorial and those newly identified) and advise us if there are any other names that should be considered for inclusion. This consultation deals only with the ‘Fallen’ and is NOT a collection of names for a ‘Roll of Honour’.

The list of names can be viewed HERE

Set Criteria
For a name to be considered for inclusion it must meet all of the three selection criteria which are listed below.

(1) Those who were born, resided or enlisted in Ballymena and District.

A map of the Ballymena and District area as it was in the First World War can be viewed HERE. The key for using this 1924 Rural District Boundary Map is as follows; the red line is parliamentary constituency, the dotted lines are townland boundaries and the dash / dot line with the solid grey line is the District boundary.

(2) The period for inclusion is between 4 August 1914 – 31 August 1921.

(3) All military personnel qualify including the Mercantile Marine and Nursing Corps.

Should you consider, after looking at the set criteria and the Fallen list, that your forebear is missing from this list, and you wish them to be considered for inclusion on the Ballymena and District War Memorial, please complete THIS FORM with as much detail as you can. This will enable History Hub Ulster to verify the name supplied.

The Legal Stuff
Your personal information will be shared between History Hub Ulster and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and will be used for the purpose of verifying the historical data provided and only used with your consent.
Please be aware that by providing us with the military personnel information you are consenting for this data to be held and used, not only for the purpose set out above, but in future Mid and East Antrim Borough Council publications, websites, presentations or other projects associated with The Great War.

Drop-In Sessions
For those who would prefer to submit their information in person two public drop-in sessions will take place on Thursday 26 and Saturday 28 October between 10am and 1pm in The Braid, Ballymena.

Verification Sources

Depending on the level and quality of the information provided by members of the public when submitting names (and to ensure that the research is performed to the same level as that carried out by WW1 Research Ireland in the review in 2015), the following primary sources will be used to verify whether the names put forward during the public consultation process satisfy the specified criteria:

In addition, the following secondary sources will be consulted:
